“You touched my life and turned my heart around, seems when I found you, it was really me I found”, lyrics from the song “Love Lives On” by Joe Cocker

Temperature: 80° / Sunny

We had the privilege of serving 23 people today.

  • When we were visiting our friends this morning I saw the words, “Love Lives On” spray painted on the side of an abandoned building.  It got me thinking of how many of our friends feel that love has abandoned them.  We tell them we pray for them all the time and God loves them.  We always hope these words penetrate their hearts and souls.  The disease of addiction and mental illness keeps them locked in a dark prison.
  • We met up with our friends, Annie, Tony and Tim.  We asked how they were doing and offered our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card with snacks, water, Gatorade.  Gatorade has been really popular with our friends during this humid weather.  I was speaking to Annie who seemed more down than usual.  We talked about when we are sick and tired of being stick and tired, that’s when we start to open the door to God’s grace.  We can only hope and pray that this happens.  She said it was coming “from the darkness into the light”.
  • We also met with our friends, Henry, Jason, Tony and Steve.  It was good to get out of the car and talk to them.  When I offered our usual packet and Gatorade, Oreos, Henry replied, “anyone who doesn’t like Oreos is not human”.  LOL
  • It was good to see our friends, Russ, Bosch, JJ.  Russ took a step back when I said I had been looking and praying for him because I had not seen him in a couple of months.  I thought he might have died.  He is under no illusion that he could die from this lifestyle when I said, “I might be dead next week”.   I gave them a hug and told them I am still praying for you guys.  One of our friends was ashamed to shake my hand because his hand was dirty.  I said, “I don’t care – give me your hand”.
  • The socks and underwear were much appreciated.  We want to thank the anonymous donors who dropped off men’s tee shirts, water, Gatorade, Oreos and mixed snacks at the Retreat House.  God bless you.

God Bless,

Claire and Shaun Teed
