“Who’ll Stop the Rain” – Creedence Clearwater Revival
Holy Saturday, Today We Had the Privilege of Serving 22 People
- The rain finally stopped and most of our friends of the street were in need of socks and underwear. L, who was on L Street, was so appreciative, she gave me a hug. I wished her a Happy Easter but felt strange saying it considering her daily struggles on the street. There is an unwritten code on the street to watch out for each other. She mentioned one of our regulars, C, who had been ousted from his claimed patch of area near the tracks. Whether it’s a tent in the woods, a doorway, an area behind a dumpster, our friends lay claim to these small patches of territory for a safe haven, if only for a short time. All of their worldly possessions are scattered around then until the weather destroys them or someone steels them, or the city sweeps them up.
- Street life is a constantly changing landscape. One of our Friends, R, was in a different area than normal. He told us he has had issues with other street people along with the Brockton PD and has had to relocate.
- We came upon a new friend, Di. She was surprised by our offer of packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card and prayer card. She noticed we had our dog, Tito in the back of the car and asked if she could see him. I opened the up the back and she started patting him. This brought tears to her eyes, most likely reminding her of the dog she once had in another time in her life. She told us she had been punched in the face last night; her scratched and bruised face told the story. Another new friend who we met earlier came over and was offering her what we just gave him (our packet, socks, sweater).
