What I really need is to get into a detox.

Sunday, October 16, 2022.
This day, God gave us the privilege of serving 45 people.

“What I really need is to get into a detox.”

Mothers and fathers pray every night that their spouse, son, daughter or grandchild will “see the light” and look to someone for help with their drug or alcohol problem. This past Sunday we pulled up to a young man sitting forlornly in the rear of a parking lot. We introduced ourselves, held out our packet and asked,“Could you use a little help?”He replied,“My name is Greg. I could use a lot of help. What I really need is to get into a Detox.”We told him,“If you’re serious we can help you with that.”He replied,“I’m serious. Can you really help me? I don’t have any health insurance.”

We exchanged cell phone numbers with Greg and said,“Call us in the morning if you still want to go to a Detox. We will do our very best to get you help.”Greg called at 9:30 the next morning. We picked him up an hour later. After walking him through the necessary steps, Greg was on his way to detox that afternoon.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

“Someone else out here will need it more than me.”

So often we are encouraged by the goodness that abides in the hearts of the poor. After helping several people in the back of an abandoned building, we pulled up next to a woman making her way down a side street. Holding out our signature packet of a $10 bill, a Dunkin gift card and the On the Street prayer, we asked,“Could you use some help?”

Staring at the packet, she replied,“Really?”Hesitantly, she took the ten dollar bill from the packet and handed it back to us, saying,“I’ll keep the Dunkin card and the prayer, but you keep the ten dollars. I’m managing to get by right now. Somebody else out here will need it more than me.”
