“There were loved ones, but I turned them all away, now I am living and dying by the choices I’ve made”. Lyrics from song “Choices” by George Jones

December 7, 2024

Today, we had the privilege of serving 24 people.

  • With the cold weather a lot of our friends were not around.  Thank God for the L St. Church that allowed them to come in earlier for breakfast and get out of the cold

  • We met up with our regular friends today along with meeting new friends.  We pulled up to (Allen) and asked if he needed any help and he replied, “no I’m all set”.  We kept talking to him showing the $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card.  He was still a little reluctant to accept anything.  We offered hat, gloves, socks, shirts which seemed to interest him.  We were able to find a pair of gloves that fit him.  He is a mason by trade and had large hands.  A lot of our friends that we meet have a wall up when help is offered to them.  We get the story out of them after they let their wall down and become comfortable.  I think it’s the shame of living on the street and the stigma that it brings.  We loaded him up with stuff and he couldn’t have been more grateful.  We just had to break down that wall of shame.

  • Today we spent more time talking to our friends about going into treatment or going back to treatment.  There is a lot of fear with them about making this leap.  A lot of our friends are in codependent relationships; they believe they can’t go to treatment without the other.

  • We met up with our friend (Henry) who was in the hospital during Thanksgiving.  He was mentioning he needed to take care of himself.  It’s hard to be free of physical disease living in a tent.

  • Liz has been helping a friend of the street who is a veteran living in Hull.  She has brought him our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card along with socks, underwear, sweatshirts, pants, blankets.  Jim always told me the ministry is for people in need wherever they are.

With the cold weather we are in need of men’s winter gloves.  Thank you to all the people who continue to support this Ministry.  Jim is smiling from above.

“Heal me, O Lord and I will be healed, save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise”. Jeremiah 17:14
