“Then I walked across the street and caught the Sunday smell of someone's fryin' chicken and Lord, it took me back to somethin' that I'd lost somewhere, somehow along the way”. Lyrics from the song “Sunday Morning Coming Down” sung by Johnny Cash

October 19, 2024

Today, we had the privilege of serving 27 people.

  • We met up with (Shane, Kathy, Tim) at their tent.  The nights have been cold lately – just a preview of what’s to come.  Liz had made up a package of hats, socks, leggings, blankets, along with boots that were donated to the ministry, which they were very happy for.  In talking to our friends on the street, the subject comes up about the fact that some of them have children that are being cared for by family members.  One of our friends was upset that her teenager didn’t want to see her on his birthday.  The shame and remorse that comes from being estranged from their families comes up during discussions about family.
  • The relief that is sought through their vices (whatever it is) comes to a point that the vice doesn’t work any more.  When the pain of living like this life becomes greater than the pain of making a lifestyle change, this is the point where they can get freedom from their self-made prison.  This is where the key is placed in the lock of willingness, God’s grace.
  • One of our friends was deeply moved by some change that was given to her by some high school kids who were about her son’s age.  We can only imagine what this must have felt like.
  • We were happy to see (Arlene) again.  We had not seen her in a while.  She was out of breath from running to us so she wouldn’t miss us.  Our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card made her day.
  • We ran into (Moe, Laurie, Mary, Jay).  We gave them our packet along with Gatorade, Oreos, jacket, socks, underwear.  People have been so generous with all of these items.
  • On our last swing through downtown, we ran into (Lee) who was looking for us earlier.  She mentioned it was her birthday.  I gave her a hug, wished her a Happy Birthday, and told her I loved her.

Thank you to all who donate to this ministry. Without your support we could not continue. We are in need of lightly used backpacks, hooded sweatshirts and sweatpants.

“To you I call for you will surely heed me, O’God turn your ear to me, hear my words”.  Psalm 17:6
