“The homeless seek more than a handout. They want and need our prayers.”
This was Jim’s last street mission. He was so happy to see his friends of the street. This day God gave us the privilege of serving 26 people. Here are a few stories of the people we served.
- We ran into Jeremy and Anita. They were glad to see Jim again. We gave the packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card and prayer card. They told us when the wind really blows during a storm it trashes their tent.
- We came across Dawn on Main Street. We offered our packet of $10/$10 DK card and prayer card. She was so grateful. She could use the money to buy a small propane tank to heat her tent. She stated she was not allowed in shelter. We wished her well. Claire gave her gloves.
- We came upon Russell pushing a wheel chair with his belongings. He told us he had broke his neck recently rummaging through a local dumpster looking for scrap metal to cash in. Gave him our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card and prayer card. Gave him gloves and hat. We wished him well.
- Met with Harry and Laverne who live in an abandoned car. They were so happy to see Jim. Jim, with his physical pain and weakness insisted getting out of the car and hug Harry – a scene I will never forget – for his love of these people as Christ did. Gave them our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card and prayer card.
- In same area a young guy Michelle was walking wrapped in a blanket. We asked if he needed help. We gave him our packet. He was so grateful. He kept repeating “God Bless, God Bless.”
To be asked to pray for the needs of those who are powerless and vulnerable is a truly humbling experience.
