“Sometimes whether I’m looking for Him or not / that’s where I find God”. Lyrics from song, “Where I Find God” by Larry Fleet

October 12, 2024

Today, we had the privilege of serving 26 people.

  • It was a sad day today to learn our friend, John John had passed away, John John was a veteran of the street.  He always had his friends’ backs, especially his pal (Bosch) who is heartbroken.  He was one of the first people we met when we took over God and Jim’s/Terry’s work.  There was a candlelight vigil for him.  RIP my friend.
  • We ran into our friend (Jay) and gave him our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card along with socks, underwear, tee shirts and snacks.  We asked about (Tony) and was told he is in Pembroke Hospital, arrested after refusing to get out of traffic at an intersection.  Their perception of safety and reality gets twisted the longer they stay on the street.
  • With the weather turning, our friends have been requesting sweatpants, sweatshirts, jackets.  We met some new friends today who were very grateful for our packet along with Gatorade, snacks, socks and underwear.
  • We met up with our friends (Shane, Lee, Kathy, Jerry).  Their tent had been removed by the city.  They relocated to another location, a constantly changing landscape.  Our friends said they had been in touch with a treatment facility that takes couples together.  This is a real fear for our friends who are couples.  They do not want to be separated.
  • Liz was talking to our friends about the northern lights that happened the other night, asking if they had seen the display.  They had not, so she showed them pictures on her phone.  They were amazed at the colors.  It got me thinking about how much of God’s beauty our friends miss, because finding something to eat or relying on the generosity of a stranger at a red light, keeps them preoccupied so they can survive another day.

“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst” John 4:13-14
