Today, we had the privilege of serving 28 people.
- We caught up with our friends (Annie, Jay, Tony, Tom). The main topic was clothing for the changing seasons. We can only imagine what it’s like to sleep under a bridge or in a doorway, or in a tent, when the weather turns cold. Their addictions keep them locked in a self-made prison.
- We ran into a new friend (George) who was partially hidden under a tarp along with his tipped over wheelchair. We gave him our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card/Prayer card. We asked if he needed anything else and he replied, “no thank you”. I looked down and realized his legs were missing from the knees down. God have mercy on him.
- We ran into our friends (Shane, Lee, Leslie, Kathy, Jerry) and gave them socks, underwear, snacks, Gatorade, water, along with our packet and they were much appreciated. Among our friend were some new friends (Jorge, Sybil). When we offered them snacks and told them to take what they wanted from our bag of snacks, their eyes lit up like kids trick or treating on Halloween. Sometimes we take things for granted – simple things. The things we complain about are the things some people are praying for.
- We ran into a new friend who was very skeptical of us. I held up our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card/Prayer card and he approached us. We then realized he was mute so we could not get his name. What he did do was give us the sign of a blessing with his hands and lips. It was really God blessing us.
- Our friends on the street even have a sense of humor given their situations. One of our friends (Lee) when we gave her Cheez-Its said she needed them because she was very cheesy. Another shouted “Go Pats”!
God Bless,
