“No one who believes in Him will be put to shame” Romans 10:11

“Only love can heal such a scar”. Lyrics from U2 song, Magnificent

We had the privilege of serving 29 people today.

  • With the warmer weather there are more new friends to meet. Our friends J and T were grateful for our packets of $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card. Sometimes when we see them, they seem upbeat, but other times they are down, not knowing what the day will bring. Their addiction hides the shame and remorse they feel until it stops working to do that, then it’s either Recovery or Death.
  • We ran into our friends John and Bosch. They were waiting for us on the usual corner. We asked about Rachel who last week talked about going into long-term treatment. They had not seen her in a few days, and they assumed she went to detox. I mentioned to them she was trying to break the chains of addiction. This brought up their own struggles of alcoholism and addiction. Sometimes they just substitute one for the other, trying different masks to hide the feelings of shame and guilt. It’s not until they place this key into the lock of willingness that any change happens. The result of this decision is Grace, God’s Grace. We tell them we pray for them all the time, for God’s mercy. “This is Christ’s work, not ours” as Jim would say to me. We need to just make ourselves available. The Oreos, snacks, water, and Gatorade are always a big hit with our friends, along with underwear and tee shirts. We met a new friend Andre who has been put into a motel while he is on the list for housing. The Homeless numbers are rising rapidly.
  • All the money, DK cards, snacks, water, and Gatorade come from a small surplus of funds. There are some people who are angels giving us socks, underwear, DK cards which are dropped off at Holy Cross Retreat House. Nancy has been a huge help putting these things aside. We can’t sustain going out every Saturday on what we are currently operating at. Please consider helping us with this Important Ministry.

“Love one another as I have loved you”. John 15:12
