“On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, the emblem of suffering and shame, and I love that old cross where the dearest and best, for a world of lost sinners was slain” Lyrics from “The Old Rugged Cross” by Alan Jackson

Today, we had the privilege of serving 26 people.

  • We met up with our friends, Annie, Tony, Tim.  With the recent rain, socks, underwear and tee shirts are in demand.  I spoke with Tony and asked how he was doing.  His standard reply is, “I’m tired”.  I am concerned with his health.  Annie told us she was getting together with her family this weekend, mother, father, sisters, brother, son.  She has not seen them in almost a year. She has some anxiety over this get- together with her family saying it might turn out to be an Intervention. We told her we continue to Pray for Her.
  • There was talk of a raid on the park this past week where a poor soul was stabbed.  BPD rounded up a lot of people, most with old warrants, wreckage of the past and sometimes present.
  • We met up with Shane, Debbie, Russ and Lindsay.  Russ couldn’t hug me because of bruised ribs he received when someone jumped him for a couple of bucks he had.  I worry about Shane and Debbie.  When they hugged me, it felt like hugging a small tree with a few branches.  They are always so grateful for Gatorade, our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card, socks and underwear.  I always tell them “We are praying for you”.
  • It’s always good to run into our friends, JJ, Bosch, Mark, Anthony.  We also met a new friend, Mike, who was taken back by our offer of our packet and water.  He mentioned he was heading to L Street Church to get something to eat.  Sometimes we question ourselves, “are we really making a difference in their lives?”  I’m not sure, but what I do know is when we roll up to them at the usual spots and see their reaction, it makes it all worth it.  “Make a friend, be a friend, bring a friend to Christ.”

God Bless,

Claire and Shaun Teed
