Today, we had the privilege of serving 24 people.

• We ran into our friends (Annie, Tom).  (Anita) was speaking to Kathy about her son’s upcoming birthday and she hopes to be able to see him.  Being a prisoner of the street creates sadness on both sides of the family.  As we have mentioned before, any change has to come from within.

• We pulled over to (Jeannie and Kevin).  Our conversation was brief, but we realized that their mental health is not good.  They love the packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card, along with snacks and Gatorade.  They still know that God loves them.  We tell them we love them.  I was never one who used the phrase “I love you” much, but I do now.  It has such a healing effect on our friends.

• We pulled up to (Shane, Kathy) who were very concerned with a new visitor to their tent.  I made them aware that I would check back to make sure everything was good.  When I came back later, they waived to me signaling they were ok.  In my conversation with Shane, I mentioned he might want to think about a change. Winter is coming, never mind the dangers of this lifestyle.

• We met (Bosch, Sandy) on the corner.  (Bosch) is still upset about J.J. being in the hospital on life support as they try to locate his sister.  Our friends have been on the street so long that they become just a distant memory to their families.  They consider their street family their brothers and sisters.  J.J. always had their backs and watched out for them.  I spoke briefly with (Sandy) who was in her wheelchair.  When I gave her our packet, she chuckled and said she was living the dream.  But then she said, “no not really”.

• We ran into (Moe) who is easy to spot with his grizzly bear coat.  He lights up when we run into him.  The packet along with snacks and underwear make his smile bigger.  I told him I loved him; he told me “I love you too”.
