It's heavy but it's worth it.

Sunday, October 23, 2022.
This day, God gave us the privilege of serving 44 people.

“Here’s $10. You give it to him!”

We had just finished handing out our last packet. As we were driving away, we heard someone hollering from afar,“Wait, please wait!”Matt, one of the people we had just helped, saw the man running toward us. He said,“Please wait for him! That’s my friend, Anthony; he needs help too.”We slowed down; then suddenly we realized there was no need to wait. Handing Matt a ten dollar bill and a prayer card, we said,“You give it to him when he gets here.”Matt looked puzzled, then his face lit up! He said,“I will! I promise I will!”We replied, “Of course you will Matt. We know that.”As we drove away, Matt stood, with a beaming smile waiting for his friend. Trust is a precious gift. When someone shows trust in us it lifts our heart and self-esteem.

“It’s heavy but it’s worth it.”

We saw Bob struggling as he carried a large, framed picture. Pulling over we introduced ourselves, held out our packet, and asked,“Could you use some help?”Misunderstanding what we meant, he replied,“No, I can handle it. It’s heavy but it’s worth it.”It was then we noticed that the picture he was carrying was of the Blessed Mother.“My name is Bob. The manager of a store was cleaning out some storage space. He told me I could have this picture of Mary. I love it. I’m not sure where I can put it, but I couldn’t stand to see it get thrown out.”Bob went on to tell us that he lives in one room in a nearby rooming house. We were happy to hear that Bob wasn’t homeless. Although his situation was minimal, he at least had a place to lay his head at night. He graciously accepted our gift of $10 and a Dunkin card and said, “Thank you so much. I can use it.”We could feel God’s spirit in Bob. As a last gesture of goodwill, we gave him a crucifix to hang in his room. Bob’s excitement at the gift of the crucifix was a sight to behold. Holding the crucifix to his chest, Bob said,“Really? Really? I can’t believe it. Thank you, I will treasure it.”
