“I really want to see you, really want to be with you, really want to see you Lord, but it takes so long my Lord” Lyrics from “My Sweet Lord” by George Harrison
Today, we had the privilege of serving 26 people.
- We ran into our friends who were showing us the bikes they were riding. One they bought for $10 and the others were left beside a dumpster. They fixed them and got them working. I joked with them about being “Hells Angels”.
- We are very concerned about one of our friends (Tony) who is always bent over and coughing. I mentioned to him he needs to get checked out medically. I made him promise me he would; (Annie) is also concerned about the coughing, but he refuses help. We have been doing the ministry long enough to gain their trust and their friendship.
- The word on the street travels fast when we are spotted making our rounds. Our old friends and new friends may not remember what we say to them, but they will remember how we make them feel when we offer them our packet of $10 bill/ $10 DK card/prayer card, along with tee shirts, socks, underwear, and Gatorade.
- In conversations early on with Jim and Terry, I learned that it’s not up to us what our friends do with our packet – it’s up to them to have the freedom of choice. Yes, choices landed our friends where they are, and some have fallen on hard times. All of our friends are seeking some type of relief, be it food, shelter, clothing, love. In our conversations, we talk about recovery, making that leap of faith for a better life. Some of our friends have children and loved ones they haven’t seen in months. As always, our hope is that they get sick and tired of being sick and tired and allow God’s grace to enter their hearts. Love Will Keep Us Together.
“He that is without sin among you cast the first stone”. John 8:3-11
