“I Can Only Imagine”, song by Mercy Me
We had the privilege of serving 23 people today.
- We came upon Angel in a doorway with all her possessions in a shopping cart. The cart was positioned in front of a doorway acting as a shield to keep her safe from the sometimes cruel world. She was happy to see us again. We always tell her we are praying for her.
- We came upon Jackie. She comes to life when we pull up to her. She never asks for anything else. Our hearts ache when we pull away. The street life not only affects a person’s physical condition but also their mental health. Some type of untreated life trauma keeps people in a constant state of turmoil. Shunned by their families, their street friends become their family, watching out for each other.
- We met a new friend today, Tonya, who was very skeptical of what we were doing. She had just had a bad experience at the shelter which she was very upset about. We gave her our $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card. We offered her snacks, clothes, and she replied “I’m all set” and thanked us.
- We ran into our friend Shane again. When I asked him what’s up he replied “My blood pressure and inflation”. He made us both laugh. We forget they can have a sense of Humor even in their situation.
I Can Only Imagine What Life could Be, If I was to be Free,
From the Shame and Loneliness That was drowning Me,
Then to be able to See That God Really Does Love Me
