“He called my name and my heart stood still, when He said John, go do my will” lyrics from song, “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” by Johnny Cash

Today, we had the privilege of serving 28 people.

  • It was a good day today.  We ran into our friends and some new friends. We hadn’t been out in a couple of weeks because we were out of town.
  • We met a new friend (Jasmine).  She was pleasantly surprised by what we had to offer her, our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card.  We also fixed her up with sweatpants, socks, underwear, snacks.  Knowing she was new to the street we told her to be careful with all we gave her.  There is an element of people who prey on people with new stuff.
  • We stopped by L Street Mission this week and I was getting an update on our friends.  They told me (Ashley), who we had offered boots to but couldn’t take because she had plastic bags on her feet with bandages, had to go to the hospital because her toes on one foot were falling off.  She had to have the remainder of her toes on the other foot removed also from frost bite.  On top of all this, she had her wheelchair stolen.
  • On a brighter note, we met a new friend (Christian) who seemed pretty cold.  He is a very polite young gentleman.  We were able to fix him up with a winter coat that fit him along with socks, gloves, hat and our packet.  With everything we handed him he replied with “God bless you” and we replied “no, God bless you”.
  • We were told that another friend of the street had passed away (Dave).  He was a staple at certain intersections.  May he RIP.  We ran into our friend (Lee).  We were glad to see her.  We hadn’t seen her in almost 2 months.  She told us she is still at MainSpring Shelter.
  • We also met another new friend (BP) who was wearing a recovery sweatshirt.  I told him I liked it, and he explained he had been off drugs for 2 years and has fallen on hard times recently.  Every one of our friends has a story of why they are on the street.  It doesn’t make a difference to us, we still show them unconditional love, just as Jesus does.
  • On our last stop we ran into our friends (Kathy/Shane).  They are still living with the angel who took them in off the street.  Their physical appearance tells the story.  They look the best we have seen them.  (Kathy) said her digestive system was trying to get used to normal meals.  I hugged them so hard and told them I love them.

God Bless,

Claire and Shaun Teed and Tito
