“For it is the Lord your God who marches with you: He will never fail you or forsake you” (DT 31:6)
“Love is Blindness” (song by U2)
“The God in him cried out to the God in me.” (Mary Renault)
Today we had the privilege of serving 16 people. (The rain kept a lot of people under the bridges.)
- We met up with our regulars J and A. J was showing me pictures of family and loved ones; pictures that reflect a normal life, but the reality is that there is nothing normal about life on the street. I think a lot of our friends believe this an accepted lifestyle, shunned by society and looked upon as eye sores or public nuisance. Each one of them at one time may have had a somewhat normal life but alcoholism or addiction changed that. They are still someone’s daughter, son, brother, sister, niece, nephew, husband, wife, friend.
- We met a new friend today, J, who insisted we take down his mother’s phone number so we could get word to her that he was ok. We know first-hand the anguish of not knowing the whereabouts of a family member who was on the streets.
- Our friend, Mi, was on the corner when we came upon him. We didn’t recognize him with his haircut. Socks, underwear, water, and Oreo cookies were popular today, along with our packet of $10/$10 DK card/prayer card.
“Without charity the outward work profiteth nothing; but whatever is done out of charity, be it ever so little and contemplatable, all becomes fruitful”. (1 Cor. 13.3)
I was reminded today of God’s mission during mass this morning, the day of “Divine Mercy”.
God bless,
Claire and Shaun
