“Cause I call Him when I’m troubled and I call Him when I’m weak, and He always pulls me through my troubles some way and I believe” Lyrics from song “I Call Him” by Johnny Cash
December 28, 2024
Today, we had the privilege of serving 36 people.
- We were happy to meet new friends today. We met (Maria) a very small woman. When she realized what we were offering her, our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card, she was overwhelmed. We also gave her a hat, gloves, socks, hand warmers, etc. She was so moved she asked us to say a prayer with her. This was very moving. God was present. Another gentleman we met (Jose) was also touched by what we were offering him. He kept blessing us.
- We ran into our friend (Ann) who had a tough Christmas being separated from her family. When she called home, her son chose not to speak to her. The shame that comes from living this lifestyle affects both sides of the family. We again talked to her about going into treatment. We can only hope and pray that she does.
- We met up with our friends (Ronnie, Kathy, Shane). We gave them dry socks, underwear, gloves, hats, sweatshirts, along with our packet. I noticed that (Ronnie) was limping and in a lot of pain. I asked him what was going on and he lifted his pant to show us his left leg which was swollen and red. It’s called edema. He needs to get to a hospital for treatment. The condition gets worse the more they walk with it. This lifestyle doesn’t allow for a place to sit like a normal person; you are constantly on the move walking sometimes aimlessly or standing on a street corner with a cup in the rain, snow, etc. We always tell them we love them and are praying for them.
- There are also funny moments with our friends. We met up with (Henry) who mentioned his birthday was the day before. He turned 65. He was very happy about making it to 65 years old. We gave him his favorite – Oreos - along with our packet, socks, underwear, etc. I think sometimes we take things for granted -- a warm dry house, family, friends. Our friends on the street are praying for the little things we take for granted.
Thanks to all who support On the Street Ministry. With the feast of the Holy Family this weekend, we hope and pray our friends of the street will be reunited with their families.
God Bless,
Claire and Shaun Teed and Tito
