Imitation of Christ: Chapter 15 “For God regards more with how much affection and love a person performs at work, than how much he does”
- Today we had the privilege of serving 24 of God’s people. We met up with J&A, long-time friends of Jim. I had mentioned that I had not seen them in a few weeks. They had told me that their tent kept getting destroyed by the wind/rainstorms. They were staying up the street with someone. We talked about the Mainspring Shelter being moved out of its current location to the grounds of the VA Hospital by end of year. They hoped it would be a larger building. We gave them our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card. Also gave them gloves/sweatshirt/Oreos and wished them well, God bless.
Luke: 1-47 “And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my savior”
- We came upon a few people outside L Street Church having a smoke. One woman only had a light shirt on. We gave her a hooded winter coat that fit her perfectly. Also gave her hat, gloves and our packet of $10 bill/$10 DK card/prayer card. She was so grateful.
- A lot of times the City is ordered to clean up sleeping bags, clothes and any debris under bridges, so they need to start over with these items that get trashed. And so it is with life on the street. Some days blend in with another. Each day becomes a grind to get their essentials (food/clothing/shelter/a bottle/a drug), whatever it may be. They seem to be a forgotten society better out of sight than in the public eye.
Each one of them is someone’s brother/sister/son/daughter/nephew/niece. We try to show them we care; God cares and loves them. We never know how much impact we can have on another person until we hear God’s voice and respond.
