“And a love bright in colors has found me with family around me that makes my heart sing”. Lyrics from song “DeColores”

April 19, 2025

Today, we had the privilege of serving 30 people.

  • With a break in the weather there were a lot of our friends out this morning.  At some of our regular stops, we saw many new and old friends.  We were happy that one of our friends (Annie) has decided to go on to further treatment in a halfway house.  God is good.
  • We ran into (Kay), who we met last week, in her wheelchair.  She is very pleasant.  We asked if she needed any clothing, and she said she was all set.  We gave her our packet of $10 bill/$10 DD card/prayer card.  She told us she is on a list for housing while she is at the shelter.  Right before we were getting ready to leave, she called me over and reached out her arms and hugged me and said “Happy Easter”.
  • We ran into (Laurie) who we had not seen in a while.  She was still pushing her walker.  She was so happy to see us.  She is also happy that she is going to get housing after being at the shelter for some time.  We gave her our packet and she opened her arms for a hug and said, “Happy Easter”.  We wrote about it last year.  It seems strange for our friends to say this to us when there is not much to be happy about living on the street.  Again another lesson from our teacher Jesus who is risen.
  • We believe that some of our greatest teachers are the difficult people God puts in our path.  Our friend (James) is one of those people.  He is always asking for double of everything we give him.  We have had words because he is relentless.  But today was different.  When we ran into him, we had just given out our last packet because there were so many people out this morning.  We fixed him up with some clothes.  When I told him we had no more packets he stared blankly at me.  Claire had a $10 bill and I handed it to (James) and he said, “thanks” (which is a miracle in itself) and he smiled, and I hugged him.
  • At Easter Sunday mass, our pastor, Fr. Matt, said he was speaking to a teenager who had not felt anything in a long time until he came back to church.  Our friends have a hard time feeling anything worth remembering.  Love of family/friends seems so distant now, but they tell us “Happy Easter”.  It kind of puts everything in perspective, doesn’t it?

God Bless,

Claire and Shaun Teed and Tito

God’s message is loud and clear, “Jesus Christ has risen today, Alleluia”
