Gospel MT 9:27-31
As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out,
“Son of David, have pity on us!”
When he entered the house,
the blind men approached him and Jesus said to them,
“Do you believe that I can do this?”
“Yes, Lord,” they said to him.
Then he touched their eyes and said,
“Let it be done for you according to your faith.”
And their eyes were opened.
Jesus warned them sternly,
“See that no one knows about this.”
But they went out and spread word of him through all that land.
Reflection:
As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out,
“Son of David, have pity on us!”
The blind men did not sit passively waiting for Jesus to approach them. They "followed him," crying out, "Have pity on us."
By following they showed that they had hope. But, did they have faith in Jesus' ability to heal them?
Our faith and Jesus' ability to heal are interconnected.
When we hit a light switch, we release the electricity so that the current can complete its journey to the bulb, which then becomes illuminated.
Jesus asked the blind men only one question, "Do you believe?"
"Yes, Lord," they said to him.
Only after the blind men proclaimed their faith did Jesus "hit the light switch."
Then he touched their eyes and said, “Let it be done for you according to your faith.”
Their faith completed their connection with Jesus' power to heal, and their world was illuminated.
As Jesus did with the blind men, He also says to each of us, “Let it be done for you according to your faith.”
"To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible." Thomas Aquinas
