Gospel LK 8:16-18
Jesus said to the crowd:
“No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel
or sets it under a bed;
rather, he places it on a lampstand
so that those who enter may see the light.
For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible,
and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light.
Take care, then, how you hear.
To anyone who has, more will be given,
and from the one who has not,
even what he seems to have will be taken away.”
Reflection:
Jesus said to the crowd:
“No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel
or sets it under a bed;
rather, he places it on a lampstand
so that those who enter may see the light."
As a moth is attracted to the light, so we also are attracted to the light of Christ.
As the song goes, "Longing for light, we wait in darkness. Longing for truth, we turn to you." (Christ be Our Light)
Turning to Christ, we find Him waiting with open arms.
"For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible,
and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light."
The truth of Christ illuminates; His light makes all things clear to us. He reveals our prejudices and our weaknesses and He shows us that our strength lies in Him.
"Take care, then, how you hear.
To anyone who has, more will be given,
and from the one who has not,
even what he seems to have will be taken away.”
It is not enough to simply embrace Christ. We are called to be His light to others. The way we keep our light shining is by letting it shine on all who despair.
Christ calls us to let others know through our words and actions that He is the way, the truth and the light. As our light shines and we spread His message of love we will find ourselves being filled with even more of His love.
Muscles not exercised become flaccid and weak. If we keep the love of Christ to ourselves, it will weaken, and eventually what we have will wither away.
"Many the gifts, many the people, Many the hearts that yearn to belong. Let us be servants to one another, Making your kingdom come."
